Yu Family

Meet our small family of three... Kevin, Christine, and Isabelle. Isabelle, better known to her friends and family as Izzy, has a dual diagnosis of Down syndrome and autism. As a behavioral therapist, Christine has worked with children with autism and their families for many years before Izzy came into our lives. Combined with Kevin's inquisitive, altruistisc, and nurturing personality, we have become advocates of children with special needs in our local community. While there are many amazing blogs out there for parents of children with Down syndrome and others for autism, we realized we have the unique opportunity to share our experiences and knowledge of both worlds. As a husband-wife team with an amazing little helper, we hope to reach out to others who can benefit from our own experiences.

I'm Kevin, one of the voices behind Different Together Soar Together. The journey that Izzy has brought us on over the last 6 years has taught me so much. Combined with my own personal experiences and the professional expertise of my wife, I've experienced a paradigm shift in my opinions and thoughts regarding mental health, behavioral health, and disabilities. I'm incredibly grateful for having Christine and Izzy as the most important part of my life. Together, they have opened my eyes and changed me for the better.

Having been into technology since I was a child and creating websites since I was a teen, I'm the technologist behind all the "webby" stuff of this blog. My professional expertise is in digital strategy, customer experience, and Ecommerce.

Some of my hobbies and interests include snowboarding, music, gardening, DIY projects around the home, cars, real estate, and being out in nature. In recent years, I've also become an advocate of people with Down syndrome as well as a volunteer and committee member of local fundraisers for the Down syndrome community.

I'm incredibly excited to see where this new journey will take us and hope it helps many families.

Hi there! I'm Christine. I'm Izzy's mommy, Kevin's wife, Michael and Margie's daughter, an Engagement Specialist, Person Centered Planner, Advocate, self-described funny lady, eternal learner, and my-face-says-it-all kind of person. I agreed to join my husband on this blog journey to contribute anything I can to inform, include, validate, and celebrate the peaks and valleys of caregiving and advocating for the vulnerable people in our lives.

My girl is my whole world. I was a decent human before she was born but now I am the best version of myself each and every day because of her! There's a million and one reasons for that and I'll share more in other posts. But I see the world vastly differently now. Through a lens of fierce love, protection, strategy, hope, mourning, and forward thinking through the good, the bad, and the crazy.

My husband is my best friend. He knows me better than I know myself in ways (He better not use my words against me!). We have learned together and we've soared together but not without plummets and deep, dark dives into the worst parts of ourselves. As a team, we hope to share posts that bring different perspectives from shared experiences and our own unique experiences.

Most of all, we bring love and compassion. We're open to feedback, open to sharing, and open to communicating!

About Different Together Soar Together

Our Inspiration

We have been sharing our knowledge and experiences with our family, friends, and local community since 2017. Through this, we learned that we really enjoy helping others and it also allows us to continue learning from others' experiences.

While there are many personal parenting blogs about Down syndrome and autism, they are written from one voice... either just the mom or just the dad. We wanted to introduce a blog that provides different perspectives, whether it's from a mom or dad's point of view, behavioral therapist or non behavioral therapist, and even from different opinions and thoughts.
